What is Hydrotherm Massage and how does it differ from conventional massage ?

This is a question I often get asked along with how can it help with Massage for people with Pregnancy, Cancer, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis so I thought I would explain it in a bit more detail:

Hydrotherm 3-dimensional system was the brainchild of British sports and remedial therapist John Holman. Hydrotherm is generally acknowledged as the World’s first truly 3-dimensional massage system.

Two warm water cushions support every client in perfect spinal alignment and Hydrotherm is perfect for every phase of life too. Expectant mums, baby massage, perfect for those who are physically active or who lead busy lives and need time to relax away from everything. We have not forgotten those who are of a more mature age either as Hydrotherm can be experienced in your eighties, nineties and beyond. Our new Hydrotherm Tranquil Sea is suitable for those who are undergoing treatment for Cancer as well.

Hydrotherm isn’t designed for a ‘one-off’ treatment but is an alternative way to delivering quality massages such as Swedish and Deep Tissue.

It works by filling two cushions with warm water (usually 38°C), which rest comfortably under your back. We then slide our hands between you and the pads to give the massage, whilst the pads continue to keep muscles warm and relaxed through the process. Lying on your front can be uncomfortable for a number of reasons, whether it’s large breasts, mastectomy, or anxiety-inducing, and the Hydrotherm option means you don’t have to worry or miss out. It also helps keep the spine supports and aligned so you’re not straining or sore afterward.

This is also a great type of massage if you’re pregnant. We touched on this in our blog ‘Pregnancy Pains and You,’ so check that out if you want more information! But essentially, pregnancy loosens the joints and increases your weight, which causes backaches near the pelvic bone, making it difficult to move. Hydrotherm is our recommended solution as regular, warm massages that don’t involve you lying on your belly can improve mobility and decrease the pain over time. It’s possible to have a full body massage on the Hydrotherm pads, without turning or straining. Your entire body is supported, with no uncomfortable face holes or cricked necks, no need to turn over during treatment either. Just lay there and relax and enjoy a unique massage experience.
